The TRT patient education booklet evolved out of the need to clearly and comprehensively communicate key concepts about tonal chiropractic to the average person.

If you don’t possess this resource that covers all of the bases, then your clients will be making their own conclusions about what you are doing: “He hits me on the spine with a little silver hammer, where I’m not even sore, and says that he’s turned the power back on?” Here’s a challenge for you in practice tomorrow: Ask each client how they explain what you do to their friends and family – prepare to cringe as you listen to quotes like the one above.

I recently had a client who provided that frustrating visit by visit wrestle of, “how am I going”, “is this working”, “how long is it going to take till I’m better”. And I told her “the chiropractic story” each time trying to reveal a part of the big idea to her. Then she discontinued and I assumed that I wouldn’t see her again. However, a few weeks later she rescheduled and all of a sudden was saying and doing all the right things! I had to ask her what had changed; and she informed me she had found my booklet while she was throwing out the recycling, had actually read it this time, and had finally understood what I was trying to tell her.

This full color pocket-sized 16-page booklet has become my strongest ally in stimulating referrals. Another client recently asked me “how do I explain to my friends what you do?” In the past I would try to teach the person some key concepts about the nervous system, subluxations, and then TRT in the hope that they might be able to recall the entire script that I recited to them. Nowadays, my answer is really simple – “take this booklet and give it to them”. I’ve got some clients who take a copy each time they visit to give to another acquaintance that they wish to refer.

I have now adapted this booklet so that any DC can implement this same resource into their client education process.

PRACTICE TIP: Don’t overload your new clients with a pile of all your educational “stuff” on the first visit. One week after they first consult you, send them a copy of this booklet with a cover letter thanking them for choosing you, explaining that this booklet will answer all of the questions that they forgot to ask, and that it will help their family members to understand the health journey that they have embarked on.
